Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The 49ers bled value on every deal, hence the D.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the 49ers spent the Round 7 slot on Zion Logue, a name most had 60 spots down the list.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick38 Rnd2 Adonai Mitchell
Good price on Adonai Mitchell in the 38th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick39 Rnd2 Braden Fiske
They took Braden Fiske at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick74 Rnd3 Kingsley Suamataia
Fair-plus on Kingsley Suamataia, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick79 Rnd3 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 79th pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick80 Rnd3 Marshawn Kneeland
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 80 with a little surplus value in Marshawn Kneeland. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick85 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
No edge and no loss on Sedrick Van Pran in slot 85; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick89 Rnd3 Cole Bishop
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cole Bishop. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick92 Rnd3 Ben Sinnott
They jumped the gun on Ben Sinnott, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick94 Rnd3 Roger Rosengarten
By-the-book stuff, Roger Rosengarten at the 94th pick squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick109 Rnd4 Brenden Rice
A premium they did not need to pay, Brenden Rice a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick118 Rnd4 Audric Estime
Audric Estime at No. 118 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick124 Rnd4 Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones at pick No. 124 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick125 Rnd4 Elijah Jones
Elijah Jones in pick 125 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick176 Rnd6 James Williams
Nothing to complain about; James Williams went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick215 Rnd6 Sam Hartman
A wild overpay on Sam Hartman in Round 6, Pick 40, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick237 Rnd7 Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at the 237th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick240 Rnd7 Zion Logue
They talked themselves into Zion Logue at pick No. 240, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick251 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
A conviction pick on Frank Gore Jr. at the Round 7 slot that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
