Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueA- NeedB- TradesA+ FutureB-
Grand theft in pick 249: the 49ers steal Harvey and grade out a B+.

The 49ers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and RJ Harvey fell into Round 7, Pick 33. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.

The cost of the Griffith reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick56 Rnd2 Trey Amos
Trey Amos in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick75 Rnd3 Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in slot 75 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick111 Rnd4 Jake Majors
Nice patience on Jake Majors, who had no business lasting to the 111th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick138 Rnd5 Kevin Winston Jr.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Kevin Winston Jr. in the 138th overall pick, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick151 Rnd5 Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor in pick No. 151 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick158 Rnd5 Kyren Lacy
They will replay Kyren Lacy at pick 158 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick171 Rnd5 Cody Simon
They barely believed it either: Cody Simon still on the board at No. 171. The roster fit checks out.
Pick185 Rnd6 Ryan Fitzgerald
The board fumbled Ryan Fitzgerald all the way to Round 6, Pick 10, and they scooped it up. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick226 Rnd7 Thor Griffith
Thor Griffith at No. 226 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick233 Rnd7 Garrett Dellinger
Garrett Dellinger at the 233rd pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick240 Rnd7 James Burnip
James Burnip in pick No. 240 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick249 Rnd7 RJ Harvey
Somehow RJ Harvey was still sitting there in pick 249, and they pounced on premier running back value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick255 Rnd7 Terrance Ferguson
Circle this one: Terrance Ferguson at Round 7, Pick 39 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
