Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesD+ FutureA
Best value of the weekend goes to the 49ers for Smith: B-.

The 49ers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Brashard Smith fell into No. 226.

If Griffith pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Adding Caelen Carson by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Princely Umanmielen
In No. 14 they get a disruptor off the edge. A real need, handled.
Pick15 Rnd1 Jahdae Barron
They took Jahdae Barron at par in slot 15, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick75 Rnd3 Charles Grant
Charles Grant at pick No. 75 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick99 Rnd3 Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra at pick 99 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick103 Rnd4 Demetrius Knight Jr.
Circle this one: Demetrius Knight Jr. at the Round 4 slot is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick111 Rnd4 Kyren Lacy
Kyren Lacy in the 111th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick137 Rnd4 Vernon Broughton
A straight-up fair deal on Vernon Broughton at the 137th pick, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick185 Rnd6 Oronde Gadsden II
A tight end of that caliber at Round 6, Pick 10 is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick226 Rnd7 Brashard Smith
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Brashard Smith in Round 7, Pick 10, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick230 Rnd7 Thor Griffith
Thor Griffith in No. 230 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick249 Rnd7 Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at pick No. 249 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick255 Rnd7 Ollie Gordon II
The board fumbled Ollie Gordon II all the way to slot 255, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
