The 49ers finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The 49ers reached some 62 spots for Thor Griffith, and value like that does not grow back. The math is unkind, and the D follows.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. So much rides on Shedeur Sanders that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him.

Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On value alone, Paul Jr. makes the weekend a net positive.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.

The board fumbled Chris Paul Jr. all the way to slot 100, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.

They did well to land Jordan Phillips in No. 113, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.

Malachi Moore at pick 138 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.

Isaac TeSlaa at Round 7, Pick 33 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.

Thor Griffith at slot 252 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
