FutureA
The 49ers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C+. The 49ers went off the board in a big way for Kaimon Rucker, 35 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The 49ers indulged a want in Tampa while a need in running back, interior defensive lineman and other spots stayed open.
The McCoy value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In pick No. 29 they get protection for the quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick35
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
Of all the spots to shop, they chose defensive back. T.J. Tampa in the 35th overall pick leaves running back, interior defensive lineman and other spots for later.
Pick64
Rnd2
Sedrick Van Pran
A straight-up fair deal on Sedrick Van Pran at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick165
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore slid further than he should have, and No. 165 is lovely value for the defensive back. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Pick177
Rnd6
Ainias Smith
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ainias Smith in Round 6, Pick 2. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick205
Rnd6
Bru McCoy
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Bru McCoy at the 205th pick is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick213
Rnd6
Landon Jackson
They liked Landon Jackson enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 6, Pick 38. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick215
Rnd6
Kaimon Rucker
They reached into another round for Kaimon Rucker, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
Pick248
Rnd7
Rylie Mills
They went early on Rylie Mills in pick No. 248, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
