The tape said wait; the 49ers did not. Jarquez Hunter went at No. 248, a good 51 picks before the board was ready. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The Stover pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman and tight end.

Getting Hart where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

So much rides on Taliese Fuaga that the real verdict is a season or two away.
