The 49ers left with their quarterback, and a D to match.

The board owed the 49ers one, and it paid up: Ryan Fitzgerald, the No. 108 name on the board, sitting there at the 255th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep.

Every board in the league had Griffith lower, and that gap is the story. Cam Ward gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
