FutureB-
More right than wrong for the 49ers, and a B- to prove it. The one they had to fix is still broken. The 49ers left edge rusher untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The Banks steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Reaching for Moore left real value on the table behind him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Dontay Corleone
In No. 30 they get a disruptive interior force at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick44
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
A clean, defensible pick in the 44th overall pick with a little surplus value in Emmanuel Pregnon. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick58
Rnd2
Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams at slot 58 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick59
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Caleb Banks in pick No. 59. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick133
Rnd4
J.C. Davis
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and J.C. Davis at the Round 4 slot is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick138
Rnd4
Louis Moore
A reach for Louis Moore in the 138th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick177
Rnd5
Taylen Green
A reach on Taylen Green in pick 177; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
Pick221
Rnd7
Jeremiah Wright
A quiet steal in Round 7, Pick 5: Jeremiah Wright for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick246
Rnd7
Josh Cuevas
Josh Cuevas at pick No. 246 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick254
Rnd7
Desmond Reid
A reasonable price with a little left over, Desmond Reid in pick 254. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
