FutureB-
The 49ers let Dart fall into their laps, and walked away with a D. The trade table was where it all came apart. The 49ers shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. A D that will need time and luck to look better.
For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Dart value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, linebacker very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Will Campbell
They took Will Campbell at par in pick 7, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
Princely Umanmielen
Princely Umanmielen is a better player than No. 33 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick39
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
No drama and no debate, Walter Nolen went about where he belonged in the 39th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick73
Rnd3
Tory Horton
A tidy little value on Tory Horton in the Round 3 slot, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick80
Rnd3
Shilo Sanders
Shilo Sanders in Round 3, Pick 16 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick95
Rnd3
Luke Lachey
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Luke Lachey. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick127
Rnd4
Fernando Carmona Jr.
Fernando Carmona Jr. at Round 4, Pick 31 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick132
Rnd5
Jaxson Dart
Steal is underselling it; Jaxson Dart at pick 132 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick159
Rnd5
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston in slot 159 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick191
Rnd6
Thor Griffith
They paid sticker price for Thor Griffith in the Round 6 slot, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick199
Rnd7
Jo'Quavious Marks
Good price on Jo'Quavious Marks in No. 199, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
