The Raiders bet the future on Mendoza. The board says B.

Start where it matters. The Raiders took Fernando Mendoza to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

They will answer for taking safety early while edge rusher, running back and other spots went begging. Reaching for Coogan left real value on the table behind him.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Haulcy steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

In slot 1 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Pick46 Rnd2 Brandon Cisse
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where Brandon Cisse graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.

The board had A.J. Haulcy higher than the 67th overall pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. A minor need, but a need all the same.

Good price on Malachi Fields in pick No. 77, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick102 Rnd4 Chase Bisontis
They liked Chase Bisontis enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 4, Pick 2. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.

They took Blake Miller at par in the 117th pick, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
