Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesB FutureB-
The Raiders bet the future on Mendoza. The board says B.

Start where it matters. The Raiders took Fernando Mendoza to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

They will answer for taking safety early while edge rusher, running back and other spots went begging. Reaching for Coogan left real value on the table behind him.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Haulcy steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In slot 1 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Pick46 Rnd2 Brandon Cisse
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where Brandon Cisse graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick67 Rnd3 A.J. Haulcy
The board had A.J. Haulcy higher than the 67th overall pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick77 Rnd3 Malachi Fields
Good price on Malachi Fields in pick No. 77, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick102 Rnd4 Chase Bisontis
They liked Chase Bisontis enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 4, Pick 2. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick117 Rnd4 Blake Miller
They took Blake Miller at par in the 117th pick, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick134 Rnd4 Jakobe Thomas
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jakobe Thomas adds a safety and leaves edge rusher, running back and other spots untouched.
Pick153 Rnd5 Pat Coogan
A real head-scratcher, Pat Coogan in No. 153 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick174 Rnd5 Bud Clark
Bud Clark in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick180 Rnd6 Charles Jagusah
Charles Jagusah at pick 180 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick183 Rnd6 Eric McAlister
Value with a capital V on Eric McAlister in No. 183, a genuine coup. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick219 Rnd7 Riley Mahlman
Riley Mahlman in Round 7, Pick 3 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
