Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesC- FutureA+
Maye is the Commanders' new face under center. Grade: B.

Start where it matters. The Commanders took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jones.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Drake Maye
Drake Maye at pick No. 3 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick34 Rnd2 Troy Fautanu
They paid sticker price for Troy Fautanu in the 34th pick, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick36 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
A straight-up fair deal on Chris Braswell at pick 36, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick67 Rnd3 Edgerrin Cooper
Fair-plus on Edgerrin Cooper, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick100 Rnd3 Bucky Irving
A clean, defensible pick in Round 3, Pick 37 with a little surplus value in Bucky Irving. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick102 Rnd4 J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant in the Round 4 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick103 Rnd4 Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves in the 103rd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick141 Rnd5 Mike Sainristil
Nothing to complain about; Mike Sainristil went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick181 Rnd6 Jacob Cowing
A tidy little value on Jacob Cowing in the 181st overall pick, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick223 Rnd7 Sheridan Jones
They let Sheridan Jones come to them and pounced at pick 223. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
