Schoepski DRAFTING FOR THECardinals
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Cardinals. Nobody else had Connor Tollison anywhere near pick No. 217. The Cardinals did, by 26 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McNeil-Warren.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Francis Mauigoa
Francis Mauigoa in Round 1, Pick 3 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick34
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Olaivavega Ioane at slot 34. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick65
Rnd3
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
They read the board right and Emmanuel McNeil-Warren was the payoff at No. 65. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick104
Rnd4
Julian Neal
No edge and no loss on Julian Neal in pick 104; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick143
Rnd5
Malik Benson
Malik Benson in the 143rd pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick183
Rnd6
Justin Jefferson
A reach for Justin Jefferson in the 183rd overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick217
Rnd7
Connor Tollison
A wild overpay on Connor Tollison in Round 7, Pick 1, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
