Schoepski DRAFTING FOR THEBrowns
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Browns bet the future on Simpson. The board says B-. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Browns spent their marquee pick on Ty Simpson, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Cameron pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
The Shelton pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Ty Simpson
In the 6th pick they get a passer to set the clock by, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick24
Rnd1
KC Concepcion
A straight-up fair deal on KC Concepcion at the 24th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick39
Rnd2
Chris Johnson
A tidy little value on Chris Johnson in slot 39, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick70
Rnd3
Drew Shelton
They talked themselves into Drew Shelton at pick No. 70, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick107
Rnd4
Emmett Johnson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Emmett Johnson at pick 107 is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick146
Rnd5
Beau Stephens
They paid sticker price for Beau Stephens in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick149
Rnd5
Aaron Graves
Aaron Graves at Round 5, Pick 9 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick206
Rnd6
Josh Cameron
Josh Cameron in No. 206 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick248
Rnd7
Diego Pavia
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Diego Pavia in No. 248. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
