FutureB-
The Seahawks worked the phones like thieves and earned a B. It is the swing that defines the weekend: Oluwafemi Oladejo in the Round 3 slot, a good 55 spots before the room expected him. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Dotson pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at running back.
They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. Getting Taylor where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at Round 1, Pick 30 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick50
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
They jumped the gun on Donovan Jackson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick52
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
A slide stopped in pick No. 52, with Xavier Watts worth more than the price. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick63
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
No edge and no loss on Tate Ratledge in pick 63; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick82
Rnd3
Savion Williams
A premium they did not need to pay, Savion Williams a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick85
Rnd3
Oluwafemi Oladejo
This one needs a full-page explanation: Oluwafemi Oladejo in No. 85, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick92
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
They paid up for Jared Wilson at No. 92 when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick95
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor in slot 95 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick122
Rnd4
Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant at pick 122 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick137
Rnd4
Mello Dotson
They bypassed pressing needs at running back to take Mello Dotson, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick172
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A reach on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in Round 5, Pick 34; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick175
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues at the 175th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick206
Rnd6
Desmond Watson
They reached into another round for Desmond Watson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick223
Rnd7
Hunter Wohler
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Hunter Wohler. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick226
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan in the 226th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick234
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
They let Carson Vinson come to them and pounced at slot 234. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick251
Rnd7
Ty Hamilton
By-the-book stuff, Ty Hamilton at the 251st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick257
Rnd7
DJ Uiagalelei
They left a pile of value on the table to take DJ Uiagalelei this early at pick 257. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
