Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Seahawks a B-. The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named quarterback, a need the Seahawks walked right past.
Reaching for Wester left real value on the table behind him. However the rest shakes out, Hairston at that price is a win they earned.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Jalon Walker
In the Round 1 slot they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick50
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Donovan Ezeiruaku. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick52
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Nice patience on Xavier Watts, who had no business lasting to slot 52. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick82
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston slid further than he should have, and No. 82 is lovely value for the cornerback. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick92
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Ozzy Trapilo at the 92nd overall pick is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick137
Rnd4
Logan Brown
A premium they did not need to pay, Logan Brown a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick172
Rnd5
Chase Lundt
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 172 with a little surplus value in Chase Lundt. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick175
Rnd5
Jake Briningstool
Jake Briningstool at Round 5, Pick 37 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick223
Rnd7
Kobe Hudson
Kobe Hudson is a better player than No. 223 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick234
Rnd7
LaJohntay Wester
LaJohntay Wester at the 234th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
