Draft Grade — Seahawks

The Seahawks robbed the room for Simon. Final grade: B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Seahawks were there to profit. Cody Simon, the No. 126 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 172. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
If Hemingway pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get a seam-stretching tight end. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick50
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick52
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
Donovan Ezeiruaku in the 52nd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick82
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
No drama and no debate, Ozzy Trapilo went about where he belonged in slot 82. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick92
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
They went early on Jared Wilson in pick No. 92, and the value did not follow. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick137
Rnd4
Cobee Bryant
They let Cobee Bryant come to them and pounced at No. 137. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick172
Rnd5
Cody Simon
You do not let a linebacker like Cody Simon reach pick 172 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick175
Rnd5
Connor Colby
They paid sticker price for Connor Colby in the 175th overall pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick223
Rnd7
Tonka Hemingway
Tonka Hemingway in the 223rd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick234
Rnd7
Jaylin Lane
Nice patience on Jaylin Lane, who had no business lasting to slot 234. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
