FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Seahawks, and a B- to prove it. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Tyler Batty, 43 picks early at the 197th overall pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Huzzie.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
They took Nick Emmanwori at par in No. 20, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick50
Rnd2
Jonah Savaiinaea
Jonah Savaiinaea in the Round 2 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick52
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
They talked themselves into Tate Ratledge at the 52nd pick, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick82
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
Good price on Mason Taylor in pick 82, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick85
Rnd3
Isaiah Bond
Isaiah Bond is a better player than pick No. 85 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick92
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
A reach for Jared Wilson in Round 3, Pick 28; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick137
Rnd4
Ty Robinson
Ty Robinson in pick No. 137 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick172
Rnd5
Jack Kiser
A premium they did not need to pay, Jack Kiser a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick175
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They paid up for Dont'e Thornton Jr. at No. 175 when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick197
Rnd6
Tyler Batty
A wild overpay on Tyler Batty in slot 197, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick223
Rnd7
Jermari Harris
They went early on Jermari Harris in the 223rd overall pick, and the value did not follow. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick234
Rnd7
Alijah Huzzie
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Alijah Huzzie at the Round 7 slot. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
