FutureF
The Seahawks robbed the room for Higgins. Final grade: F. The phones were a trap the Seahawks kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. The warnings were there, and the F is the bill.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Higgins has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. On value alone, Higgins makes the weekend a net positive.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left edge rusher open, and the grade is the bill.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In No. 12 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
Luther Burden III
Value with a capital V on Luther Burden III in the 33rd pick, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick39
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton at the Round 2 slot is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
The board had cheaper options than Jayden Higgins at the 41st overall pick, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick67
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
No edge and no loss on Carson Schwesinger in pick No. 67; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick82
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
They did well to land Mason Taylor in pick 82, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick94
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
They paid a round early for Dylan Fairchild in pick 94, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick137
Rnd4
Dillon Gabriel
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Dillon Gabriel in Round 4, Pick 35. It fills a real need, too.
Pick173
Rnd5
Jalen Rivers
Nice patience on Jalen Rivers, who had no business lasting to the 173rd pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick177
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 177th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick186
Rnd6
Upton Stout
No drama and no debate, Upton Stout went about where he belonged in pick No. 186. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick226
Rnd7
Jay Higgins
A linebacker of that caliber at slot 226 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick257
Rnd7
John Williams
They went early on John Williams in No. 257, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
