Draft Grade — Seahawks

Simpson should have been long gone. The Seahawks pounced, and earned a D+. The phones were a trap the Seahawks kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. The Seahawks indulged a want in Bishop while a need in wide receiver, linebacker and other spots stayed open. The Bishop pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Simpson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In No. 16 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
J.J. McCarthy
A reach for J.J. McCarthy in pick No. 36; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick78
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in pick 78 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick102
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith in Round 4, Pick 2 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick118
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
A curious use of slot 118. Wide receiver, linebacker and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Cole Bishop did not.
Pick177
Rnd6
Jaylin Simpson
Steal is underselling it; Jaylin Simpson at the 177th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick181
Rnd6
Julian Pearl
Julian Pearl at the 181st pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
Pick194
Rnd6
AJ Barner
A straight-up fair deal on AJ Barner at slot 194, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick236
Rnd7
Daequan Hardy
Daequan Hardy slid further than he should have, and pick 236 is lovely value for the cornerback. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
