Grand theft in No. 114: the Chiefs steal Wheatley and grade out a B+. The board owed the Chiefs one, and it paid up: Zakee Wheatley, the No. 71 name on the board, sitting there at slot 114 like a gift left on the doorstep. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In pick No. 22 they get a green-dot type in the middle at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick40
Rnd2
Christen Miller
Somehow Christen Miller was still sitting there in No. 40, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick56
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
Caleb Banks in slot 56 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick74
Rnd3
Antonio Williams
They read the board right and Antonio Williams was the payoff at the 74th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick114
Rnd4
Zakee Wheatley
A safety of that caliber at pick 114 is the definition of value, full stop. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick147
Rnd5
LJ Martin
LJ Martin in Round 5, Pick 8 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick177
Rnd5
Kage Casey
They will replay Kage Casey at the 177th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick181
Rnd5
Duce Robinson
Duce Robinson at the Round 5 slot is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
