Draft Grade — Lions

Grand theft in pick 131: the Lions steal Bech and grade out a B-.

Somebody in the Round 4 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Lions sat still while Jack Bech, the No. 97 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. Reaching for Scourton left real value on the table behind him.

Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Nic Scourton
In slot 28 they get a bendy edge with upside, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick60 Rnd2 Tyleik Williams
A tidy bit of business in No. 60, where Tyleik Williams graded well above the range. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick131 Rnd4 Jack Bech
They barely believed it either: Jack Bech still on the board at the 131st pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick194 Rnd6 Jordan Hancock
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Hancock. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick225 Rnd7 Jack Kiser
They robbed the room for Jack Kiser here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick228 Rnd7 Seth McLaughlin
They read the board right and Seth McLaughlin was the payoff at pick 228. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick244 Rnd7 Terrance Ferguson
The board fumbled Terrance Ferguson all the way to pick No. 244, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
