You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The 49ers did exactly that with Donald Chaney in Round 3, Pick 36.

Ward falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The Borregales pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman and edge rusher.

They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
