FutureA+
A franchise passer in Ward headlines a B weekend for the Giants. There is reaching, and then there is Graham Mertz at pick No. 256. The Giants jumped the board by 63 and dared it to prove them wrong.
That Neal pick is the receipt they will wave around later. So much rides on Cam Ward that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Cam Ward
In slot 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
T.J. Sanders
A tidy little value on T.J. Sanders in the 33rd pick, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick44
Rnd2
Josh Conerly Jr.
Josh Conerly Jr. at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick108
Rnd4
Ajani Cornelius
A straight-up fair deal on Ajani Cornelius at pick 108, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick142
Rnd5
Devin Neal
Steal is underselling it; Devin Neal at Round 5, Pick 4 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick159
Rnd5
Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson at No. 159 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick187
Rnd6
Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant in Round 6, Pick 12 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
Pick218
Rnd7
Eli Stowers
Taking Eli Stowers in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
Pick220
Rnd7
Jack Kiser
You do not let a linebacker like Jack Kiser reach No. 220 and blink. They did not. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick229
Rnd7
Jaylen Reed
They did well to land Jaylen Reed in slot 229, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick245
Rnd7
Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier in pick No. 245 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick256
Rnd7
Graham Mertz
A wild overpay on Graham Mertz in pick 256, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
