FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Bears and Melton: B+. You could see the war room lean forward. Max Melton at pick No. 146 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick75
Rnd3
Graham Barton
Somehow Graham Barton was still sitting there in No. 75, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick110
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
Value with a capital V on Tykee Smith in pick 110, a genuine coup. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick122
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
Fair-plus on Ainias Smith, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick146
Rnd5
Max Melton
Max Melton at the 146th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
