Drane04 DRAFTING FOR THETexans

Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
D

FutureB-
The Texans cashed the board's mistake on Tuimoloau: D. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Texans shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. The math is unkind, and the D follows.
They punted on offensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Every board in the league had Burks lower, and that gap is the story. The Tuimoloau value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Tacario Davis
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get an island corner. More want than need.
Pick53
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
The board fumbled JT Tuimoloau all the way to pick 53, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick54
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Kenneth Grant in No. 54, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick85
Rnd3
Danny Stutsman
They robbed the room for Danny Stutsman here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick86
Rnd3
Deion Burks
A conviction pick on Deion Burks at the 86th pick that the board grades a round light. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick117
Rnd4
DJ Giddens
Nothing to complain about; DJ Giddens went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick149
Rnd5
Lathan Ransom
No edge and no loss on Lathan Ransom in the 149th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick213
Rnd7
Theo Wease Jr.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Theo Wease Jr. in the 213th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
