Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall D+
ValueB+ NeedB TradesF FutureA
The Commanders got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D+.

Nobody else had Adam Randall anywhere near pick No. 223. The Commanders did, by 60 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D+.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They banked enough surplus on Davis to cover a lot of smaller sins.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Jeremiyah Love
In the Round 1 slot they get a three-down runner, and a steal at that.
Pick69 Rnd3 Germie Bernard
They did well to land Germie Bernard in pick 69, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick71 Rnd3 Lee Hunter
Steal is underselling it; Lee Hunter at Round 3, Pick 7 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick107 Rnd4 Elijah Sarratt
Elijah Sarratt in the 107th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick147 Rnd5 Brian Parker II
Brian Parker II at slot 147 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick167 Rnd5 Tacario Davis
Taking Tacario Davis in the 167th pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick183 Rnd6 Kaleb Elarms-Orr
Kaleb Elarms-Orr at No. 183 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick187 Rnd6 VJ Payne
A conviction pick on VJ Payne at the 187th overall pick that the board grades a round light. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick209 Rnd6 Riley Nowakowski
The board had cheaper options than Riley Nowakowski at the Round 6 slot, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick223 Rnd7 Adam Randall
Adam Randall in pick 223 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick243 Rnd7 TJ Hall
TJ Hall slid further than he should have, and pick No. 243 is lovely value for the cornerback. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
