The Chase Bisontis selection is the head-turner. The 49ers reached 42 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. The Slaughter pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.

On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
