Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall C-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Patriots robbed the room for Allar. Final grade: C-.

Thirty-one other rooms let Drew Allar slide, and the Patriots were the ones holding the card at pick 149. Highway robbery.

They are betting Oliver proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.

The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 James Pearce Jr.
In pick 14 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick22 Rnd1 Will Johnson
In pick No. 22 they get a ballhawk on the outside. More want than need.
Pick40 Rnd2 Luther Burden III
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Luther Burden III at Round 2, Pick 8. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick41 Rnd2 Deone Walker
Nice patience on Deone Walker, who had no business lasting to slot 41. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick49 Rnd2 Aireontae Ersery
A straight-up fair deal on Aireontae Ersery at No. 49, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick53 Rnd2 Mykel Williams
A quiet steal in the 53rd overall pick: Mykel Williams for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick72 Rnd3 Tyler Warren
The board had Tyler Warren higher than the 72nd pick, and the tight end fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick75 Rnd3 Clay Webb
Clay Webb slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick86 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson at slot 86 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick108 Rnd4 Danny Stutsman
They read the board right and Danny Stutsman was the payoff at the 108th overall pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick144 Rnd5 Blake Miller
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Blake Miller at Round 5, Pick 6 is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
Pick149 Rnd5 Drew Allar
Circle this one: Drew Allar at pick 149 is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick218 Rnd7 Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp at pick No. 218 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick220 Rnd7 Collin Oliver
They talked themselves into Collin Oliver at the 220th pick, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick236 Rnd7 Marcus Mbow
Marcus Mbow at No. 236 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick256 Rnd7 Deion Burks
Deion Burks in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
