The Ravens let Rakestraw Jr. fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Ravens were there to profit. Ennis Rakestraw Jr., the No. 38 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 68.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They will need Rosengarten to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick36
Rnd2
Kool-Aid McKinstry
A quiet steal in pick 36: Kool-Aid McKinstry for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul at No. 38 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick62
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson in slot 62 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick68
Rnd3
Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
Taking Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in Round 3, Pick 4 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick130
Rnd4
James Williams
James Williams at pick No. 130 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick134
Rnd4
Javion Cohen
They jumped the gun on Javion Cohen, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick150
Rnd5
Roger Rosengarten
Value said wait; Roger Rosengarten in the 150th pick says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
