A costly weekend of dealing drags the Saints to a D.

The Saints lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. A D that will need time and luck to look better.

If Knox pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
