Draft Grade — Saints
Overall

FutureA-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Saints for Skattebo: D+. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Saints watched Cam Skattebo slide 106 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Too much went sideways, and the D+ is the honest tally.
The Watkins pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They will answer for taking linebacker early while edge rusher and quarterback went begging.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In No. 12 they get a mismatch in the passing game. A real need, handled.
Pick40
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
They took Tyler Booker at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick71
Rnd3
Jalon Walker
They robbed the room for Jalon Walker here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick73
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
The board had Alfred Collins higher than pick No. 73, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick93
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson in pick 93 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick111
Rnd4
Carson Schwesinger
A surprising call. With edge rusher and quarterback still to address, they spent Round 4, Pick 10 on Carson Schwesinger, a linebacker they were not short of.
Pick130
Rnd4
Sebastian Castro
Sebastian Castro in the 130th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick132
Rnd4
Dorian Strong
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Dorian Strong well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick186
Rnd6
Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim in pick No. 186 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick211
Rnd6
Cam Skattebo
Taking Cam Skattebo in No. 211 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick254
Rnd7
Jordan Watkins
Jordan Watkins at Round 7, Pick 36 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
