FutureB
The Falcons worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Falcons would have aced it. Spencer Rattler at Round 3, Pick 10 is 44 spots clear of where he belonged.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. Getting Coleman where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson at the Round 1 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. The roster fit checks out.
Pick43
Rnd2
Kamari Lassiter
Kamari Lassiter at pick 43 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick45
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat in pick No. 45 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick49
Rnd2
Junior Colson
They paid sticker price for Junior Colson in No. 49, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick56
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
A quiet steal in the 56th overall pick: Keon Coleman for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick74
Rnd3
Spencer Rattler
Spencer Rattler in slot 74 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick109
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Matt Goncalves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick116
Rnd4
Beaux Limmer
A reach on Beaux Limmer in pick No. 116; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick187
Rnd6
Khristian Boyd
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Khristian Boyd at Round 6, Pick 12. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick197
Rnd6
Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. at pick 197 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick234
Rnd7
Keaton Bills
Keaton Bills at the 234th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
