Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Saints bet the future on Simpson. The board says B.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Saints spent their marquee pick on Ty Simpson, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

Reaching for Gill-Howard left real value on the table behind him. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Banks.

Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Ty Simpson
In the 8th pick they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick42 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
Caleb Banks at pick 42 is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick73 Rnd3 Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams slid further than he should have, and the 73rd overall pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick132 Rnd4 Skyler Gill-Howard
This one needs a full-page explanation: Skyler Gill-Howard in the Round 4 slot, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick138 Rnd4 Terry Moore
A reasonable price with a little left over, Terry Moore in slot 138. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick149 Rnd5 Michael Trigg
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Michael Trigg in No. 149. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick171 Rnd5 J'Mari Taylor
Nothing to complain about; J'Mari Taylor went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick190 Rnd6 Aamil Wagner
A tidy little value on Aamil Wagner in pick No. 190, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
