Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Packers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took Tim Keenan III a full 36 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Fifita steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick53
Rnd2
Carter Smith
Carter Smith at the Round 2 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick85
Rnd3
Keith Abney II
Keith Abney II slipping to pick 85 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick121
Rnd4
Tim Keenan III
Tim Keenan III in Round 4, Pick 21 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick160
Rnd5
Terrance Carter Jr.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Terrance Carter Jr. in slot 160. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick202
Rnd6
Duce Robinson
You do not let a wide receiver like Duce Robinson reach No. 202 and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick237
Rnd7
Desmond Reid
They took Desmond Reid at par in the 237th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick253
Rnd7
Noah Fifita
Noah Fifita at the 253rd overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick256
Rnd7
Ahmaad Moses
Ahmaad Moses at No. 256 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
