Draft Grade — Saints
Overall

FutureB-
The Saints fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Zion Tupuola-Fetui, 33 picks early at Round 5, Pick 25.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They banked enough surplus on Jacobs to cover a lot of smaller sins.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In the 22nd overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick45
Rnd2
J.J. McCarthy
They paid sticker price for J.J. McCarthy in pick No. 45, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick52
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Worthy at the 52nd pick, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick97
Rnd3
Caelen Carson
Fair-plus on Caelen Carson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick109
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
By-the-book stuff, Isaac Guerendo at slot 109 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick127
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray in pick 127 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick150
Rnd5
Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith in pick No. 150 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick153
Rnd5
Jarrian Jones
A clean, defensible pick in pick 153 with a little surplus value in Jarrian Jones. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick161
Rnd5
Zion Tupuola-Fetui
They reached a country mile for Zion Tupuola-Fetui at the 161st pick, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick167
Rnd5
Jaheim Bell
Jaheim Bell at slot 167 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick169
Rnd5
Mason McCormick
Value with a capital V on Mason McCormick in the 169th overall pick, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick174
Rnd5
Kamal Hadden
Kamal Hadden at Round 5, Pick 38 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick179
Rnd6
Steele Chambers
They jumped the gun on Steele Chambers, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick201
Rnd6
Daequan Hardy
A reasonable price with a little left over, Daequan Hardy in No. 201. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick216
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs in No. 216 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick224
Rnd7
LaDarius Henderson
LaDarius Henderson in slot 224 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick230
Rnd7
Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett at the Round 7 slot is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick241
Rnd7
Trevin Wallace
A tidy little value on Trevin Wallace in the 241st pick, a step better than break-even. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick251
Rnd7
Taulia Tagovailoa
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Taulia Tagovailoa. It fills a real need, too.
Pick253
Rnd7
Solomon Byrd
A real head-scratcher, Solomon Byrd in the 253rd overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
