Draft Grade — Saints
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Saints won the night they stopped Beck from sliding. Grade: D.

The Saints lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. However the rest shakes out, Beck at that price is a win they earned.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Walter Nolen
In pick No. 8 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick37 Rnd2 Will Johnson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Will Johnson at the 37th overall pick is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick39 Rnd2 Nic Scourton
Nic Scourton is a better player than the 39th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick68 Rnd3 Carson Beck
You do not let a quarterback like Carson Beck reach No. 68 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick74 Rnd3 Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra at Round 3, Pick 10 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick86 Rnd3 Emery Jones Jr.
Emery Jones Jr. in slot 86 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick93 Rnd3 Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte in slot 93 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick97 Rnd3 Jalen Royals
They robbed the room for Jalen Royals here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick131 Rnd4 Lander Barton
Value with a capital V on Lander Barton in the Round 4 slot, a genuine coup. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick147 Rnd5 Mansoor Delane
Taking Mansoor Delane in pick 147 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick216 Rnd7 Kyren Lacy
They paid sticker price for Kyren Lacy in the 216th overall pick, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick253 Rnd7 Makari Paige
Makari Paige at pick No. 253 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
