Draft Grade — Saints
Overall
B
ValueB-

FutureB
The Saints did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Saints reached some 48 spots for Trey Moore, and value like that does not grow back. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
However the rest shakes out, Haulcy at that price is a win they earned. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The dealing was even money, start to finish.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In No. 11 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick42
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
Caleb Banks in the 42nd pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick73
Rnd3
Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick87
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy in pick No. 87 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick132
Rnd4
Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Ar'maj Reed-Adams at pick 132 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick136
Rnd4
Trey Moore
Trey Moore at slot 136 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick148
Rnd5
Earnest Greene III
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Earnest Greene III well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick170
Rnd5
Barion Brown
Barion Brown at Round 5, Pick 32 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick188
Rnd6
Thaddeus Dixon
Thaddeus Dixon in pick 188 lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
