FutureA+
The Saints did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B+. There is a lot to like until you notice edge rusher is still a hole. The Saints never got to the one that mattered most. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
Landing Walker that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Reaching for Reed left real value on the table behind him.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In No. 25 they get a No. 1 receiver, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Value with a capital V on Jalon Walker in the 40th overall pick, a genuine coup. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick76
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at slot 76 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick93
Rnd3
Jalen Milroe
No drama and no debate, Jalen Milroe went about where he belonged in pick No. 93. It fills a real need, too.
Pick112
Rnd4
Tai Felton
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tai Felton at the 112th pick is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick131
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
A premium they did not need to pay, Malachi Moore a notch or two before his time. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick149
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
By-the-book stuff, Bhayshul Tuten at pick 149 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick171
Rnd5
Jaylen Reed
A reach on Jaylen Reed in the Round 5 slot; the board had better options right there. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick184
Rnd6
Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim slipping to pick 184 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick204
Rnd6
Alijah Huzzie
A reach for Alijah Huzzie in the 204th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick241
Rnd7
Corey Kiner
A tidy little value on Corey Kiner in slot 241, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick248
Rnd7
Ty Hamilton
No edge and no loss on Ty Hamilton in No. 248; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick254
Rnd7
Tonka Hemingway
Tonka Hemingway at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
