Draft Grade — Saints
Overall F
ValueD+ NeedB+ TradesF FutureD-
Ewers is the Saints' new face under center. Grade: F.

The Saints looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Quinn Ewers at the 15th overall pick regardless, 77 picks early. It bottoms out at a F.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Quinn Ewers is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. However the rest shakes out, Turner at that price is a win they earned.

The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In pick No. 9 they get a bell-cow for the offense. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick15 Rnd1 Quinn Ewers
They reached into another round for Quinn Ewers, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick33 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker at pick 33 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick40 Rnd2 Landon Jackson
Landon Jackson in the 40th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick66 Rnd3 Tez Johnson
A big swing on Tez Johnson at the 66th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick112 Rnd4 Shemar Turner
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at slot 112 is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick184 Rnd6 RJ Oben
A swing that ignored the value entirely, RJ Oben well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick248 Rnd7 Ethan Downs
Ethan Downs at slot 248 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick254 Rnd7 Collin Oliver
Collin Oliver in Round 7, Pick 38 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
