Draft Grade — Saints

FutureC
Sanders is the Saints' new face under center. Grade: D-. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Jalon Walker at slot 171 is 36 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
Whatever Shedeur Sanders becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
No drama and no debate, Shedeur Sanders went about where he belonged in Round 1, Pick 5. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick36
Rnd2
Mykel Williams
Mykel Williams in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch in the 44th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick75
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild slid further than he should have, and pick 75 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick119
Rnd4
Derrick Moore
They paid sticker price for Derrick Moore in No. 119, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick154
Rnd5
Shemar Turner
Shemar Turner at pick No. 154 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick169
Rnd5
Elijah Roberts
They liked Elijah Roberts enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 5 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick171
Rnd5
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker in slot 171 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
