Draft Grade — Saints
Overall
D
ValueB
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB+
Beck is the plan now, and the Saints grade out a D. The Saints torched the value chart for Derrick Moore, taking him 41 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
The whole projection now runs through Carson Beck; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.
Getting Emmanwori where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Carson Beck
In pick 13 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick42
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Circle this one: Emeka Egbuka at the 42nd overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick67
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
They jumped the gun on Donovan Jackson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick74
Rnd3
Derrick Moore
Derrick Moore at the Round 3 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick106
Rnd4
Elic Ayomanor
They will replay Elic Ayomanor at Round 4, Pick 10 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick138
Rnd5
Damien Martinez
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Damien Martinez in pick No. 138. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick141
Rnd5
Rylie Mills
Rylie Mills at the 141st pick is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick163
Rnd6
DJ Campbell
A swing that ignored the value entirely, DJ Campbell well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick170
Rnd6
Nick Emmanwori
The board fumbled Nick Emmanwori all the way to slot 170, and they scooped it up. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick210
Rnd7
Jack Kiser
By-the-book stuff, Jack Kiser at the Round 7 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
