FutureA
The Bears found their guy under center in Williams: A-. After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Bears committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Chase Young gives the group a proven body among the projects.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
Caleb Williams in the 2nd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
No edge and no loss on Rome Odunze in No. 9; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick67
Rnd3
Brandon Dorlus
No drama and no debate, Brandon Dorlus went about where he belonged in slot 67. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick75
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
By-the-book stuff, Christian Haynes at Round 3, Pick 11 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick110
Rnd4
Sataoa Laumea
A reach for Sataoa Laumea in the 110th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick122
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
Nothing to complain about; Ainias Smith went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick146
Rnd5
Malik Mustapha
Good price on Malik Mustapha in pick 146, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick181
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs in pick No. 181 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
