Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesC+ FutureB-
Quarterback settled, Maye in the fold, and a B- for the Patriots.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

They will need Gore Jr. to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Suamataia falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35 Rnd2 Adonai Mitchell
Adonai Mitchell at pick No. 35 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick67 Rnd3 Kingsley Suamataia
Value with a capital V on Kingsley Suamataia in Round 3, Pick 3, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick103 Rnd4 Cam Hart
A straight-up fair deal on Cam Hart at No. 103, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick140 Rnd5 Payton Wilson
By-the-book stuff, Payton Wilson at the 140th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick224 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Frank Gore Jr. this early at the 224th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick241 Rnd7 Xavier Thomas
This one needs a full-page explanation: Xavier Thomas in pick 241, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
