Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesC FutureB-
The Commanders kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

Nobody had Derrick Moore this high, and it is not close. The Commanders reached 35 spots to get him at slot 118. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

Getting Taaffe where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move. Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Makai Lemon
In pick No. 18 they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick45 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Anthony Hill Jr. in slot 45. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick82 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
A safety of that caliber at the Round 3 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick118 Rnd4 Derrick Moore
Value said wait; Derrick Moore in Round 4, Pick 18 says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick159 Rnd5 Terrance Carter Jr.
Nice patience on Terrance Carter Jr., who had no business lasting to No. 159. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick176 Rnd5 Aaron Anderson
Aaron Anderson at pick 176 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick188 Rnd6 Monroe Mills
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 6 slot with a little surplus value in Monroe Mills. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick197 Rnd6 Antonio Kite
Antonio Kite at Round 6, Pick 16 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick215 Rnd6 Sawyer Robertson
Somehow Sawyer Robertson was still sitting there in the 215th pick, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick223 Rnd7 Mark Fletcher Jr.
Mark Fletcher Jr. at No. 223 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
