Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans let Jones fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

You could see the war room lean forward. Myles Jones at Round 7, Pick 25 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

The cost of the Wilson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In pick 23 they get a problem off the edge, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick59 Rnd2 Roman Wilson
A big swing on Roman Wilson at No. 59, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick85 Rnd3 DeWayne Carter
A reach on DeWayne Carter in slot 85; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick124 Rnd4 Javon Foster
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Javon Foster. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick128 Rnd4 James Williams
They paid sticker price for James Williams in the 128th pick, and that is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick161 Rnd5 Jaylen Wright
By-the-book stuff, Jaylen Wright at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick236 Rnd7 David Ugwoegbu
David Ugwoegbu at the 236th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Pick245 Rnd7 Myles Jones
Myles Jones at Round 7, Pick 25 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
