Good, not great, for the Lions: B. Nobody had Solomon Tuliaupupu this high, and it is not close. The Lions reached 82 spots to get him at slot 209. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
However the rest shakes out, Hubbard at that price is a win they earned. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Graves pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at running back and wide receiver.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Caleb Lomu
In slot 24 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick50
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jake Slaughter at the 50th pick is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick61
Rnd2
Max Klare
They paid sticker price for Max Klare in No. 61, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick86
Rnd3
Whit Weeks
Whit Weeks in the 86th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick93
Rnd3
Chandler Rivers
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 29, with Chandler Rivers worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick116
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
A swing that ignored the value entirely, DeMonte Capehart well ahead of where he belonged. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick134
Rnd4
Aaron Graves
A curious use of Round 4, Pick 34. Running back and wide receiver needed the pick; an interior defensive lineman in Aaron Graves did not.
Pick154
Rnd5
Bray Hubbard
Steal is underselling it; Bray Hubbard at slot 154 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick188
Rnd6
Sawyer Robertson
A tidy little value on Sawyer Robertson in the 188th overall pick, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick209
Rnd6
Solomon Tuliaupupu
Solomon Tuliaupupu in the 209th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick222
Rnd7
Dominic Zvada
Dominic Zvada at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick234
Rnd7
Smith Snowden
Smith Snowden at No. 234 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
