FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Rams: B. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Rams took Joe Milton III a full 46 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Thomas. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Laiatu Latu
In slot 25 they get a premier pass rusher, and a steal at that.
Pick52
Rnd2
Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in No. 52. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick62
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like T'Vondre Sweat reach pick 62 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick83
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
A wild overpay on Zak Zinter in the 83rd overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick99
Rnd3
Will Shipley
They paid up for Will Shipley at Round 3, Pick 36 when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick113
Rnd4
Jalen McMillan
Jalen McMillan slipping to the 113th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick154
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
They reached into another round for Joe Milton III, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick155
Rnd5
Dallin Holker
Dallin Holker at the 155th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It fills a real need, too.
Pick165
Rnd5
Sione Vaki
Good price on Sione Vaki in Round 5, Pick 29, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick196
Rnd6
Tahj Washington
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tahj Washington at the Round 6 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick209
Rnd6
Frank Gore Jr.
A reach for Frank Gore Jr. in the 209th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick213
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford at slot 213 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick217
Rnd6
Evan Williams
A reasonable price with a little left over, Evan Williams in pick 217. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick254
Rnd7
Nathan Thomas
Nathan Thomas at No. 254 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
