Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesD- FutureA+
The phones sank the Patriots this weekend: B-.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Xzavier Henderson in pick No. 238, a good 43 spots before the room expected him. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. They will answer for taking linebacker early while interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots went begging.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Matthew Golden
In Round 1, Pick 15 they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Wyatt Milum
They did well to land Wyatt Milum in No. 38, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jared Ivey
Jared Ivey in the 69th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick77 Rnd3 Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander in pick 77 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick80 Rnd3 Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger at slot 80 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick106 Rnd4 Cody Simon
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Cody Simon while clear needs at interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots sat open.
Pick144 Rnd5 Andres Borregales
Andres Borregales at pick 144 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick189 Rnd6 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 189th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick217 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
A tidy bit of business in slot 217, where Luke Lachey graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick220 Rnd7 Corey Kiner
A real head-scratcher, Corey Kiner in No. 220 is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick238 Rnd7 Xzavier Henderson
Xzavier Henderson at pick No. 238 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
