Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the 49ers for Liufau: B.

Somebody in the Round 6 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The 49ers sat still while Marist Liufau, the No. 166 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

Barner has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In slot 31 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick63 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette in Round 2, Pick 31 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick94 Rnd3 Calen Bullock
Calen Bullock slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick124 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in pick No. 124 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick131 Rnd4 Justin Eboigbe
They paid up for Justin Eboigbe at the 131st overall pick when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick133 Rnd4 AJ Barner
AJ Barner at pick 133 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick176 Rnd6 Tanor Bortolini
They paid a round early for Tanor Bortolini in the 176th pick, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick211 Rnd6 Marist Liufau
Marist Liufau in No. 211 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick215 Rnd6 Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. at pick 215 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick251 Rnd7 Josh Proctor
Josh Proctor at No. 251 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
