The Packers cashed the board's mistake on Lachey: B. Somebody in pick 239 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Luke Lachey, the No. 198 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick65
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins slid further than he should have, and the 65th overall pick is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick74
Rnd3
Elic Ayomanor
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Elic Ayomanor in the 74th pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick87
Rnd3
Darien Porter
Nothing to complain about; Darien Porter went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick104
Rnd4
Sebastian Castro
Value with a capital V on Sebastian Castro in Round 4, Pick 3, a genuine coup. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick108
Rnd4
Omarr Norman-Lott
Omarr Norman-Lott in No. 108 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
Pick110
Rnd4
Ozzy Trapilo
You do not let an offensive lineman like Ozzy Trapilo reach slot 110 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick113
Rnd4
Charles Grant
Nice patience on Charles Grant, who had no business lasting to pick 113. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick123
Rnd4
Jake Majors
A slide stopped in the Round 4 slot, with Jake Majors worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick131
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
They read the board right and Joshua Farmer was the payoff at pick 131. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick160
Rnd5
Jeffrey Bassa
They barely believed it either: Jeffrey Bassa still on the board at No. 160. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick200
Rnd6
Connor Colby
Connor Colby in Round 6, Pick 22 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick239
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
Steal is underselling it; Luke Lachey at slot 239 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick251
Rnd7
Jacob Parrish
Jacob Parrish in the 251st pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
